LoTi Model Graphic

Course

EDET 603 - Design and Development Tools I

Context and Conditions

This graphic was created during the Fall 2021 semester. I used Canva to create this graphic based on research on the LoTi model levels (Moersch, 1995).

Scope

This artifact was created for this course in an educational setting but also could serve as a reference for myself or other instructional designers. This graphic summarizes the LoTi levels and provides examples of educational tools that help students interact at each level.

Role

I was the researcher and designer of this graphic.

Instructional Design

Morrison et al. (2019) discuss the use of pictures and graphics in instruction as part of the design process of the instructional message. They established that there is “a general consensus that illustrations are conducive to learning the related text information” (p. 185) and can be used to perform an organizational function, as is the case with this graphic. This graphic aligns in the Analysis or Design phases of ADDIE because it serves as a guide to help instructional designers select tools that encourage different LoTi levels of engagement (“Addie Model,” 2018).

Related Performance Indicator

This artifact fulfills the requirements for AECT Standard #2 - Content Pedagogy (AECT, 2012). The creation of this graphic indicates an understanding of the topic model and the ability to use it in a pedagogical setting.

Reflection

I enjoyed working on this artifact because, like the IMP podcast assignment, it provided an opportunity to work on relaying information in a different manner than those I was used to. This artifact required me to summarize and design the content in a way that clearly conveyed all of the required information on very little surface area. I had used Canva before for work projects, but I appreciated the opportunity to apply it in this subject.
